The Transparent Pricing Guarantee: Why the “Lowest Bamboo Removal Estimate” can turn out to be the Most Expensive
In the bamboo industry, a ‘low bid’ is usually an admission of guesswork. At NJ Bamboo, we provide fixed-price labor because we have the experience to know exactly what your project requires, no ‘daily rate’ traps and no hidden tonnage fees. We don’t aim to be the lowest initial bid; we aim to be the last check you ever have to write for bamboo removal.
We don’t believe in guesswork. We believe in the Transparent Pricing Guarantee.
The Red Flags: How “Cheap” Bids Blow Budgets
1. The “Daily Rate” Trap (Guesswork at Your Expense) If a contractor bids a project by the day or hour, or says “3 days included, then $3,500/day after”, they are admitting 2 things.
- They don’t fully understand bamboo removal and are not sure how long it will take, but are willing to learn on your dollar.
- They know it will cost more, and they are under-pricing to win the bid.
Neither Are Risks you want to take!
- The Risk: If an inexperienced crew takes two extra days to find the “end” of the grove, you are hit with a $7,000 surprise bill.
- The NJ Bamboo Difference: We provide Fixed Labor Costs. We are specialists; we know exactly how long a project takes. If we’re wrong, we eat the cost, not you. If a company can’t give you a fixed priced on the labor costs and time, they don’t know the plant well enough to remove it.
2. The 10-Ton Dumpster Surprise Most bids include the “base price” of a dumpster, which usually only covers 3 to 4 tons of weight. Or debris disposal TBD, while trucking it out themselves.
- The Risk: A 30 yard dumpster packed with bamboo roots and and connected soil weighs 9 to 14 tons. On a large project with 5 dumpsters, you could be hit with $5,000+ in overweight fees weeks after the contractor has left.
- The NJ Bamboo Difference: We provide At-Cost Disposal Estimates based on actual volume and weight. We don’t “pad” these bids, and we don’t hide the reality of what bamboo weighs. You pay what the facility charges, no surprises. After 15 years we have some of the best negotiated rates and in some areas Flat Rate Disposal! You don’t just see one price, you also see an estimate for the total weight of the project, where applicable.
3. Equipment Rental Fees & Delays Many contractors rent their machinery. If the rental yard is out of the right size, or if the job runs long, the daily rental fees keep stacking up on your invoice. You might hear our machine is to big for your yard we need to rent one to complete your project.
- The Risk: You pay for their lack of infrastructure and their delivery delays.
- The NJ Bamboo Difference: We own our fleet. We have both large and compact excavators designed specifically for residential and commercial bamboo removal. We always have the right tool on-site with zero rental fees passed to you.
4. The “Scrape & Leave” Restoration Removing bamboo leaves the earth disturbed, bamboo removal can be a very invasive process. With heavy equipment running back and forth all day for days. Many contractors leave your yard looking like a construction site, leaving you to find (and pay) another landscaper to fix it.
- The Risk: Hiring a pro to grade, seed, and straw a 5,000 sq. ft. area in NJ can cost an additional $1,500 – $2,500.
- The NJ Bamboo Difference: Full Restoration is Included. We re-level the area, hand-rake it clean, and apply seed and straw to the work area and our equipment paths. We leave your property ready for the next chapter.
Most projects do not require additional topsoil or its added cost. This is because we remove the soil off the bamboo as we are digging. If additional topsoil may be required ( bamboo removal from within a confined area ) we will disclose this upfront.
5. Bamboo Containment Gone Wrong: When deciding on whether to remove bamboo or keep and contain a bamboo, knowing where and how to place the containment barrier can make all of the difference in the world. Sure putting a barrier across the front of the bamboo will stop direct growth (with continued maintenance). But how long are you really protected?
- The Risk: If you don’t understand how bamboo grows the barrier you may be paying to have installed can be: The wrong thickness, The Wrong Depth, The Wrong Connectors, The Wrong Pitch, The Wrong Lip Above Grade. And most importantly not long enough!
- The NJ Bamboo Difference: We know , how different genus of bamboo grow to different depths, spread more aggressively, and how you position a barrier can make the difference between 1 year of protection and 10 years of protection. When possible a bamboo grove should be fully contained (on all sides) but in many cases this is not possible so the barriers need to be extended far past not only where the bamboo is now, but where it will be 5+ years down the road.
Most projects do not require additional topsoil or its added cost. This is because we remove the soil off the bamboo as we are digging. If additional topsoil may be required ( bamboo removal from within a confined area ) we will disclose this upfront.
If They Don’t Know the Price, They Don’t Know the Plant.
If a contractor cannot give you a fixed labor cost, it tells you two things:
- They are underbidding the project just to get the job, knowing they will charge more later.
- They have no idea how long it will take, which means they don’t understand how far the bamboo has spread or how complicated the removal may be.
In our experience, a contractor who “guesses” at the price usually “guesses” at the removal, too. This is why so many lower cost removals grow back within a year. If we include square footage in the estimate it will also be “Including but not limited too”
This makes a BIG difference.
The Lifetime Transferable Guarantee
Under the NJ Invasive Species Management Act, running bamboo is now a regulated liability. A “1-year warranty” is useless for a home sale three years from now.
We provide a Lifetime Transferable Guarantee. This turns a previous liability into a certified real estate asset. If you sell your home, the protection stays with the property
Our Promise to You: We know we aren’t the lowest bid, but our goal is to be the most honest. Even if you aren’t ready to move forward today, we want you to have the facts so you can protect your home and your wallet. We would rather you wait a year to save up and do it right than see you spend thousands on a “cheap” fix that fails.
